Spain
Spain is the world's third largest producer of wine. Although it produces half of what is produced in either Italy or France, the vineyard area is the largest in Spain because vines are planted further apart. Although the fine wine region of Rioja and the fortified wine region of Jerez are still the best known, the quality of production in other areas of Spain has greatly accelerated in the last 20 years. For Spanish Sherrys, see 'Fortified Wines'.
